Ballarat Heritage Weekend

Ballarat Heritage Weekend is a celebration of Ballarat’s marvellous 1850s architecture, heritage listed homes and gardens, culture
and history.

The Ballarat Heritage Weekend, was held on Saturday 10 May and Sunday 11 May, coinciding with Mother’s Day – offering a fantastic opportunity to treat mothers to a memorable weekend.

During the Ballarat Heritage Weekend, the owners of some of Ballarat’s most historic and beautiful private homes and buildings are opening their doors, giving visitors a rare chance to peek inside and wander through their magnificent gardens.

The Ballarat Heritage Weekend also provides an opportunity to step back in time with a trip on a horse-drawn tram or enjoy the old tradition of High Tea. There will also be an opportunity to learn how to research your family history. Amazingly, one in four people can trace their ancestry back to the Ballarat goldfields, so it is worth discovering if you are one of them.

Eight of the country’s best bell ringers marked the Ballarat Heritage Weekend with a unique three hour peal, ringing the bells in Ballarat’s beautiful Town Hall.

2009 is set to be bigger and better, for more information about the weekend or getting involved, please contact Shelley Best on 5320 5620 or shelleybest@ballarat.vic.gov.au
