Ballarat Heritage Weekend

Buninyong Township

Old Buninyong Library, Warrenheip St

The village of Buninyong pre-dates the founding of Ballarat by a good ten years. It was one of the earliest inland European settlements, dating from the early 1840s. The village grew rapidly, and by the time gold was discovered by the village blacksmith in August 1851, the settlement was known as ‘Ye Ancient Village’ - older and wiser than Ballarat!

Come and visit this picturesque township during the Ballarat Heritage Weekend. The Buninyong and District Historical Society will have experts on hand providing information and anecdotes about the historic town, as well as taking tours of the cemetery and the heritage-registered Town Hall complex.
