Chinese Cemetery Tours
Norman Street, Ballarat
The Chinese were a significant presence on the Ballarat goldfields in the 1850s, making up more than 25 per cent of the local population. Today, little evidence of their presence remains. Much work has been done in painstakingly piecing together the past and sifting through records of the Ballarat Cemetery Trust to bring the history of the Chinese on the goldfields to life.
Volunteers will unlock the secrets of the past with tours of the Chinese section of the city’s old and new cemeteries and explain their fascinating burial rites and customs.
